Our group meets on the THIRD Wednesday of the month at 7:00 pm at the Unitarian Universalist Church at 175 Wendell Avenue, Pittsfield. We have a comfortable meeting room on the second floor, with an adjacent playroom and bathroom. Your children are welcome to come with you.
We follow a series format for our meetings, meaning that we discuss four topics over the course of four monthly meetings, then repeat the series. The topics are:
- The Advantages and Benefits of Breastfeeding
- At Home with Your New Baby: the Family and the Breastfed Baby
- The Normal Course of Breastfeeding- Avoiding and Overcoming Difficulties
- Nutrition and Weaning
Our meetings begin with introductions: your name, children and their ages, or your due date. Often we tack on an opening question that relates to our theme for the night, like: “Name a benefit of breastfeeding that begins with the first letter of your name”. (Example: Tanya offers, “T is for temperature. Breastmilk is always the right temperature!”)
The evening then proceeds with discussion around the topic and then will also allow time for moms to ask any other questions they have. The beauty of the meeting lies in hearing other moms’ experiences and having their support. Everyone brings something different to the table and what has worked or not worked for them. Take what you need, and leave the rest.
